Fault Location

Energi Cable Engineering operate an emergency fault location and maintenance service to a number of global network operators. With a suite of fault location equipment available we are able to mobilise to call outs rapidly enabling prompt fault location.

No two faults are the same and often multiple location techniques are required to accurately pinpoint faults. Long cable routes and subsea cable routes make fault locations increasingly difficult with a high degree of accuracy.

Fault location is achieved with a combination of techniques including insulation resistance measurements, loop resistances, TDR (Time Domain reflectometry), HV and LV bridge, Arc reflection, Thumping and Audio detection, LIRA (Line Impedance Resonance Analysis) and Fibre optic testing (OTDR).
